When I met the Queen of "We Are Science" Tyrie Mitchell. She is a game changer. She "is" my STEM village and her networking gave my son Chaz his first paid job as a high school summer intern. Now as he is graduating college and stepping into the work force, he reflects how grateful he is for that "first" job foundation and how he has grown personally and professionally and all that has "STEM-med" from Ms. Tyrie!

I participated in the NSBE conferences and the We Are Science Workshops competition under Tyrie and I must say it was a great experience. Not only that we competed and won second place thanks to her knowledge! The whole process was really rewarding, and I learned so much. Tyrie cares about her students and wants them to be the best version of themselves. She does this by providing, with joy, any help or guidance that they might need to be successful in S.T.E.M

Have been, always will be.
I am an African American female health professional who loved and excelled at math and science since childhood because my daddy did and he gave me every opportunity to be exposed & succeed...and I did and I am grateful to have that early nurturing.
As a parent of 2 sons as the "STEM" concept was being coined, I eagerly pursued every opportunity for them to bloom & grow their minds.
Opportunity truly knocked when I met the Queen of "We Are Science" Tyrie Mitchell. She is a game changer.
From my first meeting with her at the Black College Expo NSBE booth years ago, her passion for our youth to get STEM exposure & education was as powerful and inspiring then as now.
She "is" my STEM village and her networking gave my son Chaz his first paid job as a high school summer intern.
