Our Roles as STEM Advocates
Early exposure to Engineering curriculum, competitions, and field trips in parallel with collaboration with scholars, professionals, and mentorship is key to keeping youth engaged in STEM. For diverse growth in young adults in STEM Careers, this organization is an affiliate and supports the efforts of National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
In 2003, Tyrie Mitchell, a young mother of two daughters decided to stop a career as AT&T Customer Care Representative with hopes to pursue higher education to return to school to obtain an engineering degree.
In 2007, she graduated from California State University of Los Angeles with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. She then, ventured into her first internship in Aerospace at the Boeing Company.
The experience was so powerful that Tyrie has since worked for three more Major Aerospace companies, including Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and now Lockheed Martin as a System’s Engineer while continually striving to provide opportunities for students to grow in STEM.
She has been a STEM ambassador at every company where she worked, with the objective to inspire underrepresented communities to pursue careers in STEM.
